About

My name is Irene Rojas and I am a second-year photojournalism master’s student at the Missouri School of Journalism in Columbia, Missouri. I am aware of the puzzled looks I sometimes get when I tell people that I am studying any form of journalism. I believe the narrative and technical skills are still valuable, and can transfer into many fields of work. The term “photojournalism” no longer applies solely to photography, and the program has allowed me to incorporate other forms of media into my work. I think photography was a good base to begin with, as it taught me about the importance of the “moment.” I learned to anticipate and prepare for it. Translated to audio and video, this knowledge means spending less time shooting and reviewing my footage and more time focused on the story itself.
